Human papilloma virus (HPV) testing

Testing for human papilloma virus (HPV) is a very effective way to tell who is at risk for cervical cancer and precancer and who is not. Women who have a negative test for HPV are at almost no risk for cancer of the cervix. Although a negative HPV test is much more reassuring than a negative Pap test, HPV testing is only done in combination with a Pap test.
