Lichen sclerosus (sometimes misspelled lichen sclerosis) is a skin condition that can affect the vulva. It may occur in any age group but is most common in women after menopause. The exact cause of lichen sclerosus is unknown. The condition is not an infection that you caught from anyone, and you cannot transmit it to others. The most common symptom is itching. When lichen sclerosus affects the vulva it causes the skin to turn white. Lichen sclerosus but not affect the vagina.
