Vulvar Lichen Planus


Lichen planus is a skin condition characterized by itchy bumps on the shins, the inner wrist and the hands. One type of lichen planus affects the inside of the mouth, the vulva and the vagina. It occurs most commonly in women 50 to 60 years old. The most common symptoms are burning and soreness and sometimes itching. When lichen planus affects the arms, legs or back it can cause a rash of small purplish bumps. When it affects the mouth, vulva or vagina it may cause white lesions or painful sores in the skin called ulcers. When sores develop, the condition is called you erosive lichen planus.
