SQUAMOUS CELL HYPERPLASIA (Lichen Simplex Chronicus)

 

What does squamous cell hyperplasia (lichen simplex chronicus) look like?

 

The skin tends to look thick and the lips of the vagina may be enlarged, swollen and with many folds. The problem may be found on one side or both. The skin color may become darker or lighter. In extreme cases scratches and cuts may develop.  The areas most frequently involved are the hood of the clitoris, labia majora, outer aspect of the labia minora.  Lesions may also extend as far as the inner thighs.
