Vulvar Vestibulitis Syndrome (VVS)

If topical therapy does not work, what is the next step in the treatment of vestibulodynia (VVS)?

Many medications that were developed for other uses have been found to be helpful in the treatment of vestibulodynia (VVS). Although they are characterized by their original uses (antidepressants and anti-seizure medications) they are not used because the patient is depressed and often the doses are much different than they would be for the depression. With all of the medications discussed, as long as the side effects are tolerable, you must give the medication adequate time to work before giving up on them. Often, you don’t see the maximal effect of the medication until 4 or more weeks of treatment.
