Vulvar Vestibulitis Syndrome (VVS)

Which antidepressants are used to treat vestibulodynia (VVS)?

Antidepressants have been used for the treatment of many chronic pain conditions of nerve origin. Not all antidepressants can be used to treat vestibulodynia (VVS). The antidepressants most commonly used for vulvodynia include: amitriptyline (Elavil) and nortriptyline (Pamelor). The most common side effects of tricyclic antidepressants include dry mouth, drowsiness, difficulty urinating and constipation. Other antidepressants that have been used for vestibulodynia (VVS)include venlafaxine (Effexor XR) and duloxetine (Cymbalta) but there is much less experience with the use of these medications than with tricyclic antidepressants.
