Human papilloma virus (HPV)

In there treatment for HPV?

There is no treatment for HPV. However, most of the time HPV goes away by itself (90% goes away within 3 years). When HPV goes away, it is because the person’s own immune system overcame the virus. When a woman is treated for cervical precancer, the treatment does not make the HPV virus go away. A true cure can only be achieved if the woman's own immune system overcomes the HPV virus. People with a weakened immune system have more difficulty getting rid of the HPV virus and so they have a greater risk of having precancer come back after treatment. Sometimes a person whose HPV went away may get HPV back if their immune system becomes weakened due to age or disease.
