Human papilloma virus (HPV)

Is there any way to reduce my chances of getting HPV?

HPV is so common that anyone who is sexually active and is at risk for getting it. However certain approaches can reduce (but not completely prevent) your chances for being infected. These include: Having fewer sexual partners, using condoms with every sex act from start to finish, getting vaccinated against HPV, avoid sexual relationships with someone who has just broken up with another partner (the more time that has passed since the last time someone has been sexually active, the greater the chance that their HPV will have gone away). Testing for HPV before starting a relationship is not recommended and not useful since there is no HPV testing for men. The only way to be sure you will not get HPV is to avoid any sexual contact or to be in a mutual monogamous lifelong relationship.
